Italian-Style Cheeseburgers

Ingredients

  • 1-1/3 lbs. ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped fresh basil
  • 8 slices Sargento® Limited Edition Deli Style Sliced Aged Provolone Cheese or Deli Style Sliced Provolone Cheese
  • 4 Kaiser rolls or hamburger rolls, split, lightly toasted
  • Pickled vegetables (giardiniera) or pepperoncini peppers, optional

Directions

  1. Prepare barbecue grill for medium-high heat or preheat broiler.
  2. Combine meat, garlic, salt and pepper. Shape into 4 patties about 1/2-inch thick and 4 inches in diameter. Grill covered or broil 4 inches from heat source 5 to 6 minutes per side or until internal temperature of meat reaches 160°F.
  3. Combine marinara sauce and basil. Spoon over patties; top with cheese. Continue grilling or broiling 1 minute or until cheese is melted. Serve in rolls with pickled vegetables if desired.
